Benguet State University
Shamag, an Ibaloi term that means news, is the official publication of Benguet State University. It functions as the University's mouthpiece for its accomplishments and is likewise a communication tool among BSU constituents. It started as the MSAC Newsletter in the 1970s to meet one of the requirements of then, the Department of Education, for a college to be elevated into a university. Hence, Shamag came out as the University newsletter in 1996.
In separate occasions this month, Dr. Ryan C. Guinaran, Dr. William D. Dar and Mr. Abner Lawangen who are all BSU alumni received various awards. On December 12, 2016, Dr. Guinaran received The Outstanding Young Men and Women (TOYM) award and Dr. Dar received The Outstanding Filipino (TOFIL) Award at the Malacañan Palace. On December 19, 2016, Mr. Abner O. Lawangen received the Dangal ng Bayan Award also at the Malacañan Palace.
The University will be hosting two international conferences in 2017. These are the International Conference on Forestry, Environment and Climate Change and the 1st International Conference on Food, Culture and Environment.
The Conference on Forestry, Environment and Climate Change will be held on January 11-13, 2017 at the Gladiola Center with the theme, “Forestry Researches Promoting Sustainable Development Amidst Climate Change”.
