The university team composed of Connie Tumpao and Paulle Jesrael Tam-awen, fourth year BS in Home Economics students won the Bulacan leg of the Tinapay natin baking competition. The team’s entry called “Pandesal Ube Flower Bread” bested nine other entries. Tumpao and Tam-awen will move on to the national competition in October.
According to Jao-jao Somyden of the College of Home Economics and Technology, the competition encouraged the participants to highlight a product that represents their respective regions. The BSU team picked pandesal, a common bread in the country and then added ube or purple yam to represent the Cordillera Administrative Region.
The competition was held on September 9, 2016 at Bulacan. Said competition is a project of Max’s Corner Bakery and the Mahalin Pagkaing Atin program by the Pilmico Foods Corporation.
