The Benguet State University officially marked the two-year celebration of its Centennial Foundation Anniversary through a series of activities on September 30, 2016.
The Ecumenical Eucharistic Thanksgiving Celebration of the Benguet State University to commemorate its Centennial Foundation Anniversary on September 30 was celebrated by ten members of the clergy representing four Christian Sects. They are: Right Rev. Joel A. Pachao, the main celebrant; Very Rev. Genesis Langbao, Rev. Agustin B. Lizardo III, Rev. Nestor Poltic and Rev. Joseph Dawang of the Episcopal Church of the Philippines; Rev. Esther K. Balawag and Rev. Christopher Alegoyojo of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines; Rev. Felix Y. Yango and Rev. Sweger Bolona of the La Trinidad Baptist Church;and Ptr. Sam Galino of the Church of the Nazarene.
The opening of the Centennial Exhibit at the Historical Museum on September 30, 2016 became a nostalgic moment for some BSU employees who went to view the displays consisting of BSU’s oldest Willy jeep that was donated to the University after it was used in the Vietnam war. Aside from old photos, there were also memorabilia and a scale model of Mountain National Agricultural School.

There were 16 trees of various indigenous species planted during the occasion by BSU guests including Atty. Federico Basco representing Benguet Congressman, Hon. Ronald M. Cosalan; Benguet Governor, Hon. Crescencio C. Pacalso, La Trinidad Mayor, Hon. Romeo K. Salda; Bokod Mayor, Hon. Thomas K. Wales; Atty. Jenny Sagpaey representing Buguias Mayor, Hon. Ruben L. Tinda-an;and CHED Commissioner, Hon. Alex B. Brilliantes, Jr.
The Centennial Launching Program on September 30 marked BSU’s 100 years with the theme “Going Global: The Centennial Challenge.” It was attended by BSU retirees led by former presidents Dr. Cipriano C. Consolacion and Dr. Rogelio D. Colting as well as BSU alumni. Representatives from DA-CAR, Easter College, CSC-CAR, PDEA, IFAD, COA, PNP-CAR, DTI-CAR and the private sector also attended the event. The Keynote Speaker, Commissioner Alex B. Brilliantes, Jr. of CHED encouraged BSU to think global act local, to look back and be thankful, to critically assess the present, pursue reforms and be hopeful for the future. He ended his speech by reminding BSU constituents that “as we reflect on our achievements we realize that we have gone far but that there is more work to be done.”
