Enriching Filipino language through S-W

This year’s National Seminar-Workshop with the theme, “Gabay sa Ortograpiyang Pambansa, Mga Isyung Pangwika, Kontekstwalisasyon at Lokalisasyon ng mga Kagamitang Pampagtuturo, Pagpili ng mga Interbensyong aralin sa Pagbasa na nasa Konsepto ng Kontekstwalisasyon at Lokalisasyon, at Paraan ng Pagtataya at Pagmamarka,” was held through an interactive three-day-seminar-workshop on May 16 to 18 at the BSU College of Arts and Sciences-Little Theater (CAS-LT).

The seminar aimed to provide active exchange of discussion about orthography (representation of sounds and language through written or printed symbols) of the country and to enrich and develop the Filipino language.

It also aimed to have right and proper communication in reading and writing and to design reading lessons that have the concept of contextualization and localization

There were 68 teachers of Filipino subject in elementary, high school and college who attended the seminar. The participants came from Baguio, Benguet, Kalinga, and Mountain Province.

Dr. Percyveranda A. Lubrica, VP for Academic Affairs formally opened the SW while, Dr. Ellen B. Donato, Regional Director of CAR gave an inspirational message.

Then, Dr. Norma s. Mayos, Director of Center for Culture and the Arts (CCA) oriented the participants about the SW.

Specifically, the topics discussed were: Pagtalakay sa Ortograpiyang Pambansa by Dr. Virgilio S. Almario, Head of Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) and National Artist; Pagtalakay sa KWF Manwal sa Masinop na Pagsulat by Dr. Edgar C. Samar from Ateneo De Manila University and Pagtalakay sa mga Isyung Pangwika by Dr. Purificacion G. Delima, Commissioner of KWF.

Moreover, Kontekstwalisayon at Lokalisasyon ng mga Kagamitang Pampagtuturo was discussed by Vilma C. Ambat, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) International Awardee; Pagpili ng mga Alternatibong Aralin sa Pagbasa na nasa Konsepto ng Kontekstwalisasyon at Lokalisasyon by Dr. Rosalinda E. Tavara, Regional Education Program Supervison and Mga Paraan ng Pagtataya at Pagmamarka by Hilda Dawayen, Filipino Subject Trainer of Baguio City National High School.

According to Dr. Mayos, they are planning to conduct another seminar-workshop during the next summer.
