Scholars under the Expanded Students’ Grants-in-Aid Program for Poverty Alleviation (ESGP-PA) were recognized on July 14, 2017 at the BSU Cafeteria for their participation to the English for Academic Purposes-Training Course (EAP-TC) III of the International Language Center (ILC).

The closing program was attended by Ms. Jackie C. Stone of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, BSU President, Dr. Feliciano G. Calora Jr., and Office of Student Services Director, Dr. Joel V. Lubrica.

In his speech, Dr. Calora encouraged the scholars to always strive for excellence.

“Your training is for one month only but continue learning the English language.Enrich your vocabulary by reading books and watching movies,” said Dr. Calora.

The training conducted from June 13, 2017 to July 13,2017 included lectures and competitions in the form of quiz bee, speech choir, debate and drama participated by 100 ESGP-PA scholars.

“The training gave us a lot of knowledge; we have learned the correct pronunciation, enunciation, diction and stress of words. We also learned the proper uses of tenses, prepositions and quantifiers. We learned to set our grammar in writing and even speaking…but more than these, we learned the value of patience, industry and cooperation,” said Novelyn O. Obfan, one of the ESGP-PA scholars. Obfan also expressed her gratitude to the BSU and ILC personnel who made the training possible.

Dr. Ronda B. Tullay, Director of the ILC appreciated the scholars for their willingness to learn. “Use these concepts to better yourselves and to make BSU proud,” she said.//JSTabangcura
