Benguet State University Research and Extension (R&E) successfully hosted a three-day workshop titled “Development and Packaging of Research Proposals for Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR) Mentoring Workshop” on January 28-30, 2025. The event, held at the R&E Everlasting Hall, aimed to help participants develop and package research proposals for funding from DA-BAR.
This was participated by researchers from BSU, Northwest Samar State University, Bicol University, Marinduque State University, and the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines.
BSU President Kenneth A. Laruan and VP for Research and Extension Roscinto Ian C. Lumbres welcomed the participants and the resource speakers from the DA-BAR Program Development Division, Marnelie G. Subong and Leila Jamila P. Rebuldela.

Next, Venecio U. Ultra, Jr., DOST Balik-Scientist, along with the participants presented initial topics/problems areas of interest. A writeshop was then held to polish the participant’s significance of the study, objectives, and literature.
The second day began with a recap of the previous day’s activities, followed by sessions focused on polishing Research Design/Methodologies and the preparation of work plans and budgets. Participants also presented their draft proposals to a panel of evaluators.
The workshop concluded with the presentation of the participants’ outputs and mentoring facilitated by Ultra and the resource speakers. Junel B. Soriano, Director of DA-BAR, encouraged participants to go beyond the publishing of their research. In her closing remarks, Ruth S. Batani, Director of the Office of Research Services and CORCAARRD, reiterated Soriano’s message about the importance of collaborating with LGUs.
