One hundred twenty copies of the “Encyclopedia of Benguet Indigenous Knowledge Systems” were formally turned over by Benguet State University (BSU) to the Benguet Department of Education (DepEd), marking a significant step in promoting cultural heritage and indigenous knowledge within the educational system. The handover ceremony took place during the culminating program of Benguet Teachers’ Day at the Benguet Sports Complex on October 17, 2025.
This marks the second batch of the same book provided to public schools in Benguet. The encyclopedia is a product of the BSU research team led by Stanley F. Anongos and funded by Commission on Higher Education (CHED). The books were received by Department of Education (DepEd) -CAR Regional Director Estela L. Cariño, along with other officials from the DepEd Benguet Division.
Leading the turnover was BSU President Kenneth A. Laruan, who was joined by several authors of the encyclopedia, including Stanley Anongos, Dean of the College of Social Sciences. In his address, President Laruan emphasized that the encyclopedia was the result of dedicated work by a team of faculty researchers. He expressed hope that making these materials available in schools would encourage both students and educators to appreciate, learn from, and uphold traditional knowledge passed down through generations.
The distributed books will reach each district of Benguet, serving as valuable references for teachers and students alike. This turnover of the “Encyclopedia of Benguet Indigenous Knowledge Systems” reaffirms BSU’s ongoing commitment to community engagement, research, and the preservation of indigenous heritage, ensuring that the rich cultural legacy of Benguet continues to inspire future generations.//J.Belardo
