The 13th Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism week celebration of the Department of Hospitality Management and Department of Tourism Management of the College of Home Economics and Technology (CHET) began on September 15, 2025 at the CHET building parking area. With the theme “Mantauli Tako: From Countryside to Cuisine,” this year’s celebration highlighted the distinctive intersection of tradition, hospitality, and innovation in the field of tourism and hospitality management.

Jao Jao A. Somyden, dean of the College of Home Economics and Technology, was represented by college secretary Dalifer A. Gano in delivering the welcome remarks to formally begin the celebration. BSU President Kenneth A. Laruan then delivered an inspirational message emphasizing the value of resilience, excellence, and cultural appreciation in the hospitality and tourism industries. Also, Marvin Valentin, special assistant to the VPAA shared his valuable experience in relation to the hospitality and tourism industry.

Adding color to the event, BSHM 4th-year students performed an intermission number showcasing their originality and talent. The event continued with Amelia G. Bawang, DHM faculty member, introducing the guest speaker.

Gilbert P. Barro, housekeeping custodian of Baguio Country Club, conveyed his motivating speech focusing on the event’s theme. He expressed his thoughts on the changing face of hospitality, highlighting the importance of local culture and rural heritage in building sustainable tourism and food. His lecture encouraged the students to incorporate passion, discipline, and cultural identity into their future professional endeavors. Part of the event was a presentation of an AVP titled “HRT through the years” which highlighted the department’s program and activities and milestones.
