In celebration of the 109th Foundation Anniversary of Benguet State University, an On-the-Spot Poster Making Competition was held on October 8, 2025, at the DSG Hall, College of Teacher Education. The theme was the newly approved university slogan, “Shaping Minds, Transforming Communities, Sustaining Futures,” BSU students, faculty, staff, and alumni created 44 outstanding entries. The participants showcased their talents by bringing the meaning of the slogan through art. The posters reflected the University’s commitment to intellectual growth, community development, and sustainability, guiding principles in its academic and public service endeavors.
Deborah Mata-an, one of the participants, an alumnus and faculty member of BSU Buguias Campus, said, “I’ve already started this kind of art since I was still a student, I’m not aiming for the win, but of course that’s part of it. I’m aiming for my contribution to the 109th BSU Foundation Anniversary and also to share my art with other people. Makita nila na BSU has a lot of diverse talent, especially when it comes to art.”
Additionally, Dona Bullong, a faculty member and participant, shared that the new slogan of the university reflects how old and distinguished BSU is. “Sa 109 years na yun, makikita mo yung mga developments na nangyayari sa university, especially innovation, research, and nakita ko yung list of participants natin, sila ay alumni na naging faculty, so it makes you think na yung roots ng BSU, it goes way back at bumabalik at bumabalik din sa BSU.”
Moreover, a student participant from the College of Engineering shared his excitement and nervousness about the said competition.
“Medyo kinabahan kasi yung last na sinalihan ko is nung Grade 10 pa. So parang kinabahan kasi ang gagaling din nila tapos yung mga materials nila are top tier. Pero all in all, it’s good naman. Feeling ko naman, confident ako sa ginawa ko.”
Another student participant from the College of Veterinary Medicine shared her views on the new BSU slogan,
“The theme is very centered sa bagong BSU VGMO. If binabasa mo siya, parang nangagaling din doon yung theme [or slogan].”
The competition is still ongoing, and the announcement of winners will be on October 20, 2025.
Winners will be receiving prizes,
First place, ₱3,000 worth of BSU Products
Second place, ₱2,000 worth of BSU Products
Third place, ₱ 1,000 worth of BSU Products.
On October 13, 2025, the poster exhibit was officially launched at the BSU Administration Building, Lobby, for public viewing.
