Janice Balangen of the College of Natural Sciences (CNS) represented BSU for the annual Balili River Day celebration held at Bagong, Sablan, Benguet on September 16, 2025.
Balili River is one of the Water Quality Management Areas (WQMA) in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and with the continuous efforts of various stakeholders, it is continuously monitored and cared for by Local Government Units (LGUs), the DENR- Environmental Management Bureau-CAR (DENR-EMB-CAR), and the community.
This year’s celebration was hosted by the LGU of Sablan through its Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO). DENR-EMB-CAR OIC Regional Director Jean C. Borromeo shared that protecting Balili River is one responsibility that should not be given up on.
Messages of support were also shared by leaders from the Province of Benguet, Municipality of La Trinidad, and Baguio City. All of them emphasized the need for unity in the restoration and protection of the Balili River.
The celebration was highlighted with the ceremonial planting of bamboo propagules followed by the Adivayan. This was participated by members of the Balili River WQMA Governing Board, Benguet State University, and the Balili River System Revitalization Coalition represented by Aurea Marie M. Sandoval and Vicky Ferrer.
