Benguet State University (BSU) strengthened its partnership with the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC), an attached agency of the Department of Agriculture based in Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the research project titled “Enhancing the Productivity and Sustainability of Benguet Native Pig” on December 11, 2025.
The MOA was signed at the Office of the President by BSU President Kenneth A. Laruan, PCC Animal Breeding and Genomics Section Head, Ester B. Flores, and Project Leader, Mary Arnel D. Garcia. Also present during the MOA signing were Ana B. Mendoza, Director of the Cordillera Center for Animal Research and Development, and Leo S. Laruan, Chairperson of the Department of Animal Science and Study Leader of the research project.
The collaboration aims to have a structured breeding program to improve the phenotype and production performance of native pigs as a source of parent stocks.//DPaydowan
