La Trinidad, Benguet – July 16, 2025 — Students from Benguet State University (BSU) made a strong showing at the 3rd Municipal Research Congress and Community Project Awards organized by the Municipality of La Trinidad. The event, spearheaded by the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation and the Local Youth Development Office (LYDO), aimed to promote youth-led research and community initiatives across the municipality.

A total of 12 research entries from BSU were submitted under the tertiary category, along with three community project entries. From these, 10 research papers advanced as finalists, with BSU students securing the top three positions. First and third place honors were awarded to students from the College of Natural Sciences – Department of Environmental Science, while the second place went to the College of Numeracy and Applied Sciences.

Other finalists from BSU included entries from the Department of Environmental Science and the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics under the College of Home Economics and Technology.

In the Community Project Awards category, the Association of Language and Literature Students from the College of Teacher Education claimed first place, followed by the Secondary Laboratory School – STEM strand in second place. The Bios Logos Society from the Department of Biology, College of Natural Sciences, also made it to the list of finalists for their outstanding community work.

According to Kevin Ray N. Galano, a staff member of the LYDO, the congress is designed to support youth and community development through research. “The main goal is to provide a platform for young researchers to present their work to a broader audience, including local stakeholders, fellow students, and government officials,” Galano explained.

The annual event continues to highlight the importance of youth engagement in research and civic action, reinforcing the role of academic institutions like BSU in local development efforts.//DA De Aro
