Research team members of the CHED-commissioned research project titled “Empowering Equity Target Students: Enhancing Access and Success in State Universities and Colleges across Regions I, VIII, and XII, Philippines” were at Benguet State University for a benchmarking activity on January 31, 2025. The researchers, coming from Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, Samar State University, and University of Southern Mindanao, aimed to learn about BSU practices to promote inclusivity on student admission and retention.
The researchers were welcomed by BSU President Kenneth A. Laruan at the Rogelio D. Colting Hall. Joining President Laruan were VP for Academic Affairs Janet P. Pablo; Director of the Office of the University Registrar Julie A. Buasen; Director of the Office of Student Services and Head of the Student Wellness Services Erlyn Honeylette C. Marquez; Head of the Guidance and Counseling Unit Fay Ann P. Farangan; Head of the Testing and Materials Development Unit and Vocational and Placement Unit Ramon C. Fiangaan Jr.; Head of the Student Development Services and Student Discipline Unit Editha A. Grande; and Marycel T. Sajise, a faculty member of the College of Numeracy and Applied Sciences – Statistics Department.
The discussion that followed revolved around student retention, programs and scholarships, admission and drop rates, student services, support for students with disabilities, student residency, transfer processes, opportunities for pregnant students, and tracing of graduates.
Afterwards, the researchers were toured around the La Trinidad campus.//BTayaban
