The Benguet State University – College of Natural Sciences (CNS) conducted trainings to empower students and contribute to the attainment of the environmental goals of the La Trinidad Local Government Unit (LGU) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
To develop leadership capabilities of CNS students, the Department of Environmental Science and the Young Environmentalists’ Society (YES) conducted a Youth Leadership Training titled, “Empowered to Lead, Inspired to Act: Cultivating Leaders for a Resilient Future” on February 8, 2025 at the CAS Little Theater.
Topic discussed were Youth and Leadership in Environmental Management by Hon. Roderick A. Awingan, La Trinidad Vice Mayor and Environment Committee Chairperson; Young Leaders as Environmental Advocates by Arthur A. Pedro of the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO); and the Succession Planning: Ensuring Leadership Continuity in YES by Jason M. Leung, YES adviser.
In celebration of the Chemistry Week with the theme “Chemistry for a sustainable future”, the Department of Chemistry and Chemistry Society Jr. conducted a training on February 10, 2025 at the CHET Annex Function Hall. The event featured topics on La Trinidad Environment Code by Awingan and Selected Environmental Policies and Laws of La Trinidad by Maria Angelica F. Tinoyan of the MENRO La Trinidad.
These initiatives directly support the LGU La Trinidad’s Environment IEC Campaign and the SDGs, specifically on SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, and SDG 15 Life on Land.//JBalangen
