Benguet State University (BSU) celebrated the United Nations Day through various activities organized by the BSU Supreme Student Government (BSU SSG) in coordination with the International Relations Office.
The celebration began with a Parade of Flags, bringing together students, faculty, staff, and international students. Each college represented various nations. The parade symbolized global unity and respect for cultural diversity. It began from the BSU Museum to the Administration Building, passing through the National Highway, then ending at the BSU Gymnasium.
The parade was followed by a short program before the Pasikatan competition while each college had put up food stalls at the BSU Covered Court for the UN Food Bonanza. SSG Executive Margaret D. Barlis welcomed the participants then gave the overview of activities for the day.
Representing University President Kenneth A. Laruan, Executive Assistant IV Maridel P. Langbis emphasized that promoting peace, unity, and global partnership begins with everyday actions within BSU. She encouraged students to resolve disagreements through dialogue, respect differences, support others, verify information, and practice environmental responsibility.
”To our dear students, your education gives you the opportunity to improve your life-and the ability to improve life of others. The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals give us a shared direction. Here at BSU we can turn these goals into everyday actions,” she said.
After Langbis’ message, the Pasikatan activity began where BSU colleges made performances inspired by the country of their choice. This highlighted cultural heritage through music, dance, and storytelling. The Mr. and Ms. United Nations competition added excitement as representatives from each college proudly showcased attires from different countries and also participated in a question-and-answer segment.
The celebration concluded with the UN Variety Show, where students demonstrated their talents in cultural and modern dance, music, and dramatic dialogues. The variety show was organized by the BSU-SSG and the Center for Culture and the Arts.
This celebration highlighted the university’s commitment to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). Through this event, Benguet State University champions peace, inclusivity, and global partnerships, fostering a campus environment that embraces diversity and collaboration for a better future.//EBawang
