Benguet State University (BSU) has formalized a partnership with the Young Women’s Christian Association of the Philippines Inc. (YWCA) and the YWCA of Benguet, La Trinidad, Itogon, Sablan, Tuba (BLIST). The signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was held on September 18, 2025 virtually via Zoom.
The MOA was signed by BSU President Kenneth A. Laruan, YWCA of the Philippines Inc. National President Marcia Suzanne O. Bicomong, and YWCA of BLIST President Asuncion Villacorta Gundran.
The partnership aims to empower young people and break the stigma around menstrual health, especially in rural and Indigenous communities. YWCA of the Philippines National Executive Director Neriza Bernardo Llena described the partnership as a commitment to helping young people embrace hope.
“Together, we are breaking barriers, raising awareness, and creating spaces where young women and men can grow with dignity, confidence, and respect,” she stated.
Bicomong added that the partnership is a commitment to promoting sustainable and healthy practices in the communities.
“Our hope is that every young woman will be able to live with strength, dignity, and confidence,” Bicomong said. She explained that this is not only for women but also includes men, who play a crucial role in fostering support and respect.
Laruan then added that the agreement will promote research collaboration and implementation of extension programs designed to improve socioeconomic well-being. He added that it will provide opportunities for faculty and students to serve the communities.
The signing ended with Laruan’s message expressing hope that the partnership would extend and thrive beyond the initial two-year period.
