A total of 200 Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) members of Benguet engaged in a two-day seminar-workshop on gender and development (GAD) and policy-making in governance at the Chrysanthemum Hall, College of Public Administration and Governance (CPAG), Benguet State University (BSU), La Trinidad, Benguet. Organized by the BSU-CPAG, in partnership with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO)-La Trinidad, the seminar-workshop aims to increase the participants’ understanding of crafting an ordinance and improve their ability to integrate gender-responsive principles in policy-making.
The first session of the activity, led by Hon. Councilor Teddy C. Walang, focused on the fundamentals of crafting local ordinances. This provides the participants with a clear understanding of legislative decisions that shape long-term community outcomes. While in the second session, Renebeth G. Donguiz, a faculty member from CPAG, emphasized gender sensitivity and responsiveness in policymaking.
The activity not only aims to equip youth leaders across Benguet with the knowledge and competencies. It also highlights the strategic foresight required to develop policies that are both gender responsive and future-oriented. This reminds the participants that applying a GAD lens requires awareness and understanding of GAD policies and concepts to ensure local legislation is inclusive, equitable, and responsive to the diverse needs of the community. //RGDonguiz & RHBPicpican
