Delegates from B-Birds Integrated Farm of San Juan, Abra visited the Northern Philippines Root Crops Research and Training Center (NPRCRTC) of Benguet State University (BSU) on July 17, 2026, for an educational learning activity on modern and sustainable purple yam (ube) production.
The visit aimed to enhance the participants’ knowledge and skills in modern production technologies and crop management practices to increase productivity and promote sustainable farming in their community.
The delegation was guided by Jennie B. Balao, Senior Science Research Specialist and Head of the Crop Management and Seed Production Division, who toured the visitors around the facilities utilized for purple yam production. She also conducted on-site discussions, sharing the Center’s production practices, technologies, and research initiatives while responding to the participants’ questions throughout the visit.
The activity provided the delegates with valuable insights into root crop development and highlighted BSU’s continuing commitment to sharing research-based technologies and best practices that contribute to agricultural innovation and the advancement of farming communities.//W. Marcos
