In support of the University’s commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible stewardship of natural resources, and consistent with existing University environmental, facilities management, and student discipline policies, this Memorandum hereby STRICTLY PROHIBITS the entry, use, and distribution of single-use plastics within BSU premises. This policy aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 14 (Life Below Water), which collectively emphasize waste reduction, climate mitigation, and the protection of ecosystems from plastic pollution.
This initiative is likewise grounded on existing national environmental laws and policies, including Republic Act No. 9003 (Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000), which mandates waste avoidance and reduction at source; Republic Act No. 11898 (Extended Producer Responsibility Act of 2022), which promotes accountability across the plastic lifecycle; and other relevant environmental regulations enforced by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). As an academic institution and a catalyst for social and environmental transformation, the University recognizes its role in leading by example by adopting sustainable practices that minimize environmental impacts and promote environmental awareness among its academic community.
This order is issued to promote responsible consumption, reduce plastic pollution, and foster a culture of environmental stewardship within the University.
This Administrative Order issued on March 9, 2026 prohibits the entry, use, and distribution of single-use plastics within the BSU La Trinidad premises. From March 9 to April 8, 2026, BSU is in a transition period to allow stakeholders to deplete existing stocks and shift to compliant alternatives.

The ban covers bottles, beverage containers, cups, straws, stirrers, plates, bowls, shopping bags (including sando bags), single-use take-out food containers, sachets, packaging films and wrappers made out of plastic.

All employees, students, and visitors must comply.

The use of ENVIRONMENT-FRIENDLY alternatives is highly encouraged including: reusable water bottles and tumblers; and paper-based, biodegradable, compostable, or reusable food packaging. All stakeholders shall bring their own reusable food containers and eco-bags.
