As part of the College of Nursing’s extension agenda and in support of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-being, the BSU College of Nursing conducted a reproductive health service outreach in Bangho, Daclan, Tublay, Benguet on April 25, 2025.
The activity, titled “Lakbay Kalusugan: Reproductive Health Care for Women in Daclan,” was spearheaded by the BSU Reproductive Health Team and participated in by local health workers, women residents, and representatives from the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Daclan. This initiative was carried out in response to a request from the LGU of Daclan, made through the Committee on Health, led by Kagawad Lerma S. Dacnes, who also serves as the president of the Daclan Women’s Rural Improvement Club (DKRIC), an active women’s association in the barangay.
The activity commenced with a series of health education lectures facilitated by faculty members of the College of Nursing. Ervina Louisa Campus delivered a session on Menopause, Jonalyn S. Esco discussed Breast Cancer and Breast Assessment, and Maureen E. Gay-as provided insights on Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC). An open forum followed, where participants raised questions and engaged in discussions on the topics presented as well as broader reproductive health concerns.
In the afternoon, free health services were offered, including cervical cancer screening using Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) and clinical breast examinations. Clients who presented with notable findings during these assessments received appropriate health education and were referred for further management and care.
One of the women who availed of the cervical screening shared her appreciation, stating:
“We are truly grateful that these reproductive health services were brought to our community. The lectures were very informative, and I’m relieved and happy to learn that I tested negative for cervical cancer. This is a form of self-care—we, as women, must prioritize our health. We cannot empower others if we ourselves are unwell. That’s why I encourage my fellow women to take advantage of any health services offered in our barangay.”
She also extended her heartfelt gratitude to the BSU team for the valuable services they rendered to their community.//CN Info Coordinator
