The Compensation, Benefits, and other Obligations Office and the Records Office and Archives led this week’s flag-raising ceremony.
Following the ceremony, the newly elected BSU Supreme Student Government (SSG) officers were presented.
BSU SSG President Elisha Margarette Barlis of the College of Social Sciences noted that her election win is not just a personal victory, but a victory for her party, her fellow student officers, and all students who believe in student governance.
She emphasized that leadership is not about personal gain, holding a position, or being superior to others, but about standing beside the students, being present, listening, learning, and serving.
Barlis also committed to standing up for the rights and welfare of the student body, assuring that the student government will be present when needed the most.
The student leaders formally took their oath of office, administered by Josel M. Florentin, Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the President.
Afterwards, International Relations Office Deputy Director Doreen I. Allasiw introduced visiting experts from Catalyste+, Canada, under the Innovative Leadership for Equitable and Accessible Democracy (i-LEAD) project. Environmental Consultant Melinda McLauchlin and Senior Biologist Paul McLauchlin will help develop proposal plans for the Biodiversity Center at the BSU-Bokod Campus. Additionally, Global Operations Leader and Sustainability Strategist Julian Baricuatro will serve as the resource speaker and trainer for the Generative AI Training of Trainers workshop from September 21 to 25, 2026, at the CCARD Hall.
College of Nursing Dean Jude L. Tayaben announced the results of the August and September 2026 Nurses Licensure Examination, highlighting BSU’s status as a Top Performing School with a 100 percent passing rate. Bhea Laureen D. Garcia, who ranked Top 8, was also recognized.
A group of BS Nursing students was recognized for garnering first place in the Policy Pitch Competition (Student Category) during the 8th PSPHP National Public Health Convention held on September 18–19, 2026, in Baguio City. The students included Valesca Pelico, Charlene Anne Sapdoy, and Sylvia Mae Valeriano, who presented their paper titled “Gabay U: Institutionalizing Nurse-Led, Family-Centered Communication to Close the Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health Gap.”
BSU Government Employees Association President Donato M. Wanawan Jr. expressed gratitude for the success of the Foundation Bike Ride conducted on September 18, 2026, and the Fun Run on September 19, 2026, acknowledging the support of various offices and personnel.
College of Information Sciences (CIS) Elizabeth A. Lascano invited the BSU community to the CIS’ 5th Founding Anniversary celebration.
Cordillera Consortium for Agriculture Aquatic Resources Research and Development Director Nordalyn Pedroche also announced the 16th Joint Regional Symposium on Research, Development, and Extension Highlights (RSRDEH) and 9th Regional Student Research Congress scheduled on September 29–October 1, 2026, at Kalinga State University, Tabuk City, Kalinga.
CBOO Staff Lorenzo Acosta III then informed everyone about the CBOO’s new Facebook page and reminded BSU employees of the ongoing enlistment for the Annual Physical Examination Part 2.
To conclude the program, Florentin congratulated the newly registered nurses and student officers. Honoring National Teacher’s Month, he described teachers as God’s 8th day creation tasked with shaping minds, inspiring the youth, and balancing knowledge, values, discipline, and compassion.
Drawing a parallel to the September equinox where light and dark reach balance, Florentin highlighted the importance of change and innovation. He emphasized that innovation is not just about advanced technologies, but also everyday positive actions such as greeting, waving, and inspiring clients.
He reminded the university community that every effort, no matter how small, contributes to BSU’s mission: “To shape minds, transform communities, and sustain the future.”
