Benguet State University’s weekly flag-raising ceremony was hosted by the College of Social Sciences, Department of History and Philosophy (CSS – DOHP). After the ceremony, a short program was held in observance of the Buwan ng Kasaysayan 2026, with the theme “Hinubog ng Bayan, Dinuyan ng Alon.”
Highlighting the value of history in shaping Filipino identity and honoring the country’s cultural and historical roots, CSS – DOHP Faculty Member Christine R. Bombane shared a reflective message. She emphasized how Philippine history was shaped not only by land and territory but also by the seas that connected communities, carried trade and ideas, and formed the country’s identity as an archipelagic nation. Bombane drew on examples from precolonial maritime networks, Cordilleran resistance, and the experiences of Igorot communities in the diaspora to show that culture and identity continue to “travel” with Filipinos wherever they go, emphasizing that history remains a living story passed on through generations.
In his closing message, VP for Administration and Finance Richard H. Kinnud commended university constituents who reported to work despite the bad weather. He then emphasized the month’s core value, resilience, relating it to the need to remain steadfast and continue serving even in difficult conditions. Kinnud shared the story of the shoemaker and the dwarves as a reminder that perseverance, helping one another, and continuing to work through challenges can lead to lasting blessings.
He concluded by urging the BSU community to remain strong, to continue supporting one another, and to sustain their services to the university with a resilient spirit.//EBawang
