The University Library and Information Services led this week’s Flag Raising Ceremony.

After the ceremony, the Office of Quality Assurance and Accreditation announced the accreditation results of two academic programs evaluated on August.

The Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management program was awarded Level III Accreditation, while the Bachelor of Science in Chemistry program achieved Level I Accreditation.

College of Nursing Dean Jude L. Tayaben also announced the upcoming validation visit of the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) scheduled on November 9–10 in connection with the University’s bid for the GADtimpala Award.

Tayaben called on offices across the University and its campuses to actively participate in the validation activities, noting that various offices are expected to undergo interviews and visits as part of the assessment. The University seeks the cooperation of its personnel to ensure a smooth and successful validation process.

In his closing message, BSU President Kenneth A. Laruan emphasized that excellence in university service should go beyond performance ratings and the completion of assigned targets.

He noted that while the Individual Performance Commitment and Review (IPCR), Division Performance Commitment and Review (DPCR), and Office Performance Commitment and Review (OPCR) measure individual and organizational performance, these ratings do not necessarily reflect the full extent of excellence.

Citing management expert Peter Drucker’s distinction between efficiency and effectiveness, Laruan challenged employees to reflect on whether they are merely accomplishing targets to obtain favorable ratings or genuinely delivering results that create meaningful contributions to the University.

He underscored three important principles in achieving excellence: ownership of responsibility, quality of performance, and continuous improvement.

Laruan encouraged employees to take responsibility for their commitments without waiting for reminders, go beyond simply meeting targets by producing meaningful and impactful outputs, and continuously improve their performance regardless of the ratings they received in previous assessments.

He further emphasized that individual performance contributes to the overall effectiveness of the institution. When employees perform their responsibilities well, offices become more effective, units become more productive, and the University moves closer to achieving its vision.

“The best performance rating is not just what appears in our IPCR, but the positive difference that our people experience because of our service,” Laruan stressed.

He also acknowledged the University’s continuing recognition through various awards, which reflect the collective efforts and commitment of its workforce.

The ceremony concluded with a reminder that excellence is not measured solely by the number of accomplishments or activities completed, but by the quality, impact, and meaningful contributions of every member of the University.//NSudaypan
