In celebration of Benguet State University’s 110th Foundation Anniversary and the 126th Philippine Civil Service Month, the Human Resource Development Office (HRDO)conducted the Multi-Disciplinary Discourse XIII via Zoom. The activity served as an avenue for BSU scholars and grantees who have completed their respective degree programs to share their research outputs, experiences, knowledge, and significant learnings during their period of study.
In her opening remarks, VP for Academic Affairs Janet P. Pablo welcomed the participants and commended the HRDO for organizing an event that celebrates the doctoral achievements of BSU employees while highlighting the journeys behind their research.
Quoting Albert Einstein—“The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing”—she noted that the event represents that very spirit of curiosity. She commended the presenters, emphasizing that balancing a demanding career while earning a doctorate is an extraordinary achievement.
She also emphasized that innovation happens when different disciplines meet, share ideas, and challenge assumptions.
“As you listen to today’s presentations, I encourage everyone to stay interested, ask bold questions, and explore how these insights connect across our diverse fields,” she said.
University President Kenneth A. Laruan, in his message, emphasized that the occasion was a milestone not just for completing a dissertation, but for sharing newly generated knowledge and contributing to a broader academic conversation.
“Your research should not remain confined to our dissertations, journals, or bookshelves, especially for you, faculty members. Knowledge gains greater value when it is shared, challenged, connected with other disciplines, and translated into action,” he emphasized. He also expressed hope that the presentations will not only showcase your accomplishments, but also serve as an avenue to spark new ideas and collaborations.
The presenters included Michelle B. Gatab-Laruan, who presented “Communication and Youth Farmers’ Constructs and Engagement in Agripreneurship on Organic Farming in La Trinidad, Benguet: Intergenerational Communication Perspective”; Alvin C. Dulay, who shared his research titled “Optimization of the Growing Environment of an Aeroponic Seed Potato Mini-Tuber Production”; and Marvin T. Valentin, who presented “Enhancement of Biothane Production from Biowaste by the Addition of Biochar”. Additional presentations were given by Emelda E. Villa on “Compliance with Food Safety Regulations of Benguet State University”; Fay Ann P. Farangan on “Coping With Suicide Attempt in The Family: A Case Study on Family Members’ Experiences”; Kristine T. Baniqued-Dela Cruz on “Isang Kasaysayang Panlipunan ng Pamilihan ng Baguio City, 1948-2023”; Flordeliza D. David on “Telecommuting Towards Organizational Resilience in the Covid-19 Pandemic”; and Rowena G. Tello on “Price Monitoring and Forecasting Decision Support System using Data Mining Techniques”.
The activity concluded with the closing remarks from OIC-Chief of the Administrative Services Division Raymundo H. Pawid Jr.
emphasized that celebrating the university’s 110th founding anniversary is not merely about honoring its rich legacy, but about recognizing how the continuous pursuit of knowledge equips the academic community to address today’s complex challenges.
He acknowledged that the diverse research presented highlights how advanced scholarship directly serves both our institutional growth and community well-being.
“By examining critical dimensions of public health, technology, sustainability, heritage, and human behavior, these studies reinforce the importance of organizational resilience. They remind us that for an institution or community to adapt, thrive, and remain steadfast through changing times, it requires robust systems, evidence-based practices, and an unwavering commitment to holistic well-being,” he continued.
Pawid hoped that the event served as an inspiration for graduate students and future researchers to look across discipline lines, embrace diverse methodologies, and ensure that our research serves both the mind and the heart of society.//DPaydowan, PGadang
