The Benguet State University Government Employee Association Inc. (BSUGEAI) spearheaded a ceremony to switch off the Christmas lights at the BSU Centennial Park on January 17, 2025. The cold evening was warmed up with a serenade by the BSU Rondalla and overflowing coffee sponsored by the BSUGEAI.
The ceremony began with an invocation by Chief Administrative Officer Matias C. Angiwan Jr., followed by the opening remarks from Amelia Kimeu, a BSUGEAI officer.
VP for Business Affairs Josel M. Florentin representing BSU President Kenneth A. Laruan, highlighted in his message the symbolism of light associating it with illumination, enlightenment, hope, and knowledge among others. Florentin shared an inspiring story about a little candle who doubted its capability but was able to cast powerful light with the help of large mirrors. As illustrated by the story, Florentin said that every person is capable of serving as light for others.
Acknowledging that challenges may sometimes dim our own inner light, Florentin cited Steve Maraboli’s inspiring poem “Dare to Be,” encouraging everyone to persevere and continue to serve as source of hope and positivity for others.
“Hand and hand we will shine brighter than the Christmas lights we retreat today. BSU will always be a safe, happy, and luminous place for everyone,” he added.
The Christmas lights were switched off after Florentin’s message. BSUGEAI Secretary Jean B. Harder-Balacay thanked the attendees and looked forward to the time when the lights will be lit up again.//EBawayan
