Members of Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries’ Organizations (ARBOs) from Nueva Vizcaya participated in a learning visit to Benguet State University (BSU) as part of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Nueva Vizcaya’s Agro-Enterprise Technology Mission, Learning Session, and Field Exposure Visit.
The activity began at the Northern Philippines Root Crops Research and Training Center (NPRCRTC), where Jennie B. Balao, Senior Science Research Specialist and Head of the Crop Management and Seed Production Division, welcomed the delegates on behalf of Center Director Darwin A. Basquial.
Balao presented an audio-visual presentation on the NPRCRTC’s history, mission, vision, programs under its divisions, best practices, and production activities. The session was followed by a question-and-answer discussion on the management of ube crops, providing the participants with practical insights into root crop production and management.
The delegates also visited the Center’s facilities related to crop production and management, allowing them to observe the application of various production practices and technologies.
The group proceeded to the Food Science Research and Innovation Center (FSRIC), where Caster Troy Iblogan, FSRIC Staff, presented the Center’s best practices in food security and research, highlighting the role of food science and innovation in supporting sustainable agricultural development.
The learning visit provided the ARBOs with valuable insights that may be incorporated into their plans and programs on agricultural production, food security, and innovation management, while highlighting BSU’s commitment to sharing research-based knowledge and technologies with farming communities and partner institutions.//WMarcos
