The College of Numeracy and Applied Sciences (CNAS) led this week’s flag raising ceremony.
Following the ceremony, Chief Statistical Specialist Imelda L. Buyuccan of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – Benguet Provincial Statistical Office delivered a message for the 37th National Statistics Month (NSM) with the theme “Tuklas Pilipinas: Statistics as Beacon Towards Inclusive, Resilient, and Sustainable Tourism”.
In her message, Buyuccan highlighted that the word “Tuklas” is a reminder to discover the hidden potentials of our local communities, measure the real pulse of the tourism sector, and understand the lived experiences of every traveler, every worker, and home. While tourism is one of the vibrant engines of the economy, true progress is not measured by foot traffic or arrival records alone. Data helps us answer the harder, vital questions.
She also emphasized that statistics empower decision-makers to balance tourism promotion with environmental protection, safeguard cultural heritage, and build resilience against shocks and crises.
“Let this month-long celebration bridge the gap between statisticians, policy makers, tourism operators, and the citizens” she added.
Her talk was followed by an intermission from the second-year Bachelor of Science in Statistics students, a question and answer game facilitated by CNAS faculty, and announcements from the various colleges.
CNAS Dean, Ederson G. Bawang invited the BSU community to participate in the upcoming NSM activities.
College of Forestry Dean, Nova D. Doyog announced the results of the 2026 Professional Foresters Licensure Examination where BSU achieved an institutional passing rate of 88.33 percent, exceeding the national passing rate of 74. 31 percent. This achievement secured BSU’s rank as the third top-performing school, among schools with more than 50 examinees.
College of Human Kinetics faculty member Kalvin Jake Awas, also recognized the students who won awards during the Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League Season 37 on October 10-11, 2026.
