The BSU-NPRCRTC recently spearheaded a comprehensive training on Improved Purple Yam Production Practices for the Living Water Association in Tuel, Tublay, Benguet. This initiative focused on the adoption of location-specific technologies and provided essential technical guidance to strengthen the local agricultural community. Throughout the sessions, farmers explored the global potential of yam production and studied critical techniques such as seed yam production systems, proper fertilizer application, and integrated pest management. The training also introduced modern innovations like drip irrigation and aeroponics, offering a glimpse into the future of climate-smart farming.

A significant portion of the workshop was dedicated to the yam minisett technique, where participants engaged in a hands-on return demonstration. This practical exercise successfully produced 1,118 cut setts that were pre-rooted directly in the farmers’ fields to ensure a steady supply of quality planting materials. By enhancing local expertise and promoting sustainable methods, this activity directly contributes to SDG 1 (No Poverty) by increasing income opportunities, SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) by improving food productivity, SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) through efficient resource management, and SDG 13 (Climate Action) by promoting climate-resilient agricultural practices.//NPRCRTC
