The College of Numeracy and Applied Sciences (CNAS) hosted the October 20 flag-raising ceremony (FRC) and the celebration of the 36th National Statistics Month.
Following the ceremony, Philippine Statistics Agency (PSA) – Benguet Chief Statistical Officer Imelda L. Buyuccan shared a message providing a short background of the statistics month with the theme “Accelerating the SDG Pace of Progress: Mobilizing Data for All.” Buyaccan was then awarded a certificate of recognition and a token of thanks for celebrating with BSU representing the PSA.
After Buyuccan’s message, BS Statistics students performed an interpretative dance as a short intermission, followed by a mental game on Statistics Trivia by CNAS Statistics faculty members Ralph Lloyd Gabudao and Jackie Lou Cariño.
After the intermission, newly hired and promoted employees took their oath of office, officiated by University President Kenneth A. Laruan.
CNAS Dean Ederson G. Bawang congratulated alumni and students (advanced studies and undergraduate) of the statistics department for participating in the 16th National Convention on Statistics held on October 1, 2025.
Additionally, Bawang invited the BSU constituents to visit the CAS-AN Quadrangle for the different activities held by the college in celebration of the Statistics Month.
Finally, University President Kenneth A. Laruan concluded the FRC by expressing his gratitude to Buyaccan for attending the ceremony and celebrating National Statistics Month with the university.
Laruan lauded the students who participated in the National Convention on Statistics.
“Numbers and data are like a picture that paints a thousand words. So, if you look at the figures or numbers when they are subjected to analysis, it will tell you a lot of things as to where the data is coming from. If the data is coming from a community profile, it’s like you are telling stories of that community and that data can provide us with an idea of what needs to be done,” Laruan said.
“It is a skill that we need to develop, especially when we are engaging in research activities. I hope that as we have the College of Numeracy and Applied Sciences, they will provide us more capacity development activities to strengthen our faculty, researchers, stakeholders, and our students in data analysis” Laruan added.//EBawang
