The main function of (GCU) is to help students attain personal growth and development. The unit assists students in examining and resolving problems and situations that impede their academic, personal, moral, spiritual, social, and psychological as well as career development.

FUNCTIONS

  • Plans comprehensive programs for student welfare with the assistance of parents, guardians, teachers, administrators, and other concerned personalities and agencies;
  • Provides individual and group counseling to students with varied developmental concerns;
  • Conducts seminars / workshops based on the assessed needs of the students and develops, prepares, and disseminates informational materials related to these;
  • Keeps a systematic record of student information;
  • Establishes linkages with different agencies in order to partner with experts who are able to respond to the students’ special needs; and
  • Conducts research to enhance the unit’s student welfare services.

SERVICES OFFERED

INDIVIDUAL INVENTORY

The GCU gather the complete data of students for profiling, recording of transactions, and updating of students’ records in the GCU.

INFORMATION SERVICE

The GCU provide relevant, educational, and personal-social, and other needs-based information to BSU students for empowerment and holistic development

COUNSELING

The GCU conducts individual or group counseling to walk-in as well as referred clients in different modalities such as face-to-face, written (chat and email), phone, and video.t

TESTING

The GCU administers, scores, and interprets different psychological tests available for students.

REFERRAL

The GCU facilitate the access of students with critical needs for specialized interventions.

FOLLOW UP

The GCU conduct follow-up interviews / counseling to students who were referred or self-referred to the GCU or students who were referred to outside agencies for specialized interventions.

EVALUATION

The GCU collect relevant feedback or other information about the delivery of the different guidance services, programs, and activities which will be the basis in crafting more responsive services, programs, and activities.

EXTENSION

The GCU conduct various guidance-related activities to requesting DepEd schools and other agencies, especially to the schools with whom the OSS has forged a MOA.

RESEARCH

The GCU obtain data that is useful in the analysis of the different concerns of students which will also be a basis in developing a more comprehensive needs-based guidance intervention and prevention program.

STUDENT WITH SPECIAL NEEDS AND PERSON WITH DISABILITIES SERVICES

The unit specialized for structuring programs and activities designed to provide equal opportunities to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), indigenous people, solo parents, etc.

INFORMATION AND ORIENTATION SERVICES

Orientation of information dissemination and orientation services of the OSS.

PROGRAMS

TuTuKK PROGRAM
The TuTuK Program of the GCU stands for “Tumulong ken Tumarabay Kenyam Kabsat” which is a maxim that guides the Guidance Counselors in responding to the emerging needs of the BSU studentry, especially by providing a support system during their entire stay in the university.

TuTuKK: “Kalinga”

The word “Kalinga” means “care” hence this program aims to provide care to students via counseling and life-coaching.  The objective program is to aid students come up with necessary coping and decision-making skills they can use when faced with difficult circumstances. 

TuTuKK: “Dap-ay”

“Dap-ay” means a place where there is a gathering of two or more people to talk about stories and insights about life. In the same manner, in assisting the student with his/her concern, collaboration with the parents is done through a parent conference. The Counselor, student and parent/s come together in the “dap-ay” to work together for the wellbeing of the student. 

TuTuKK: “Lasat”

“Lasat” means “survive” thus this program aims to equip students with skills which will help them survive the rigors of their college life.  The specific topics under this program include but not limited to:

  • Effective Study Habits
  • Goal Setting
  • Test Taking Strategies
  • Effective Financial Management
  • Time Management
  • Other related topics
TuTuKK: “Boom! Papanam”?

This program is aimed at helping students plan their career path through career exploration and career guidance. The specific topics under this program include but not limited to:

  • Self-Awareness through Personality, Interest, Ability and Tests
  • Academic Planning
  • Labor Marketing
  • Other related topics
TuTuKK: “I-Push mo yan”!

This program seeks to coach students acquire necessary life-skills that will help them cope with difficult life situations. The specific topics under this program include but not limited to:

  • Effective Communication Skills
  • Interpersonal Skills
  • Anger Management
  • Assertiveness Skills
  • Self-Esteem
  • Decision-Making Skills
  • Conflict resolution
  • Other related topics
TuTuKK: “911”

This program seeks to coach students acquire necessary life-skills that will help them cope with difficult life situations. The specific topics under this program include but not limited to:

  • Bullying: Prevention and Intervention
  • Understanding LGBTs
  • Love, Courtship and Marriage
  • Teenage Pregnancy and Early Parenthood
  • Dealing with Abuse (sexual, drugs, etc.)
  •  Understanding Children in Conflict with the Law
  • Suicide Prevention and Intervention
  • Case Management
  • Other Mental Health Topics
TuTuKK: “Kudos”

This is a send-off program that endeavors to provide psycho-social processing to graduating students as they leave the portals of their alma mater. Students are asked to evaluate as well as reflect on their experiences in the university.

TuTuKK: “Danggayan”

This is specially designed for Students with Special Needs such as the Persons with Disabilities, student mothers, and the like. It primarily aims to provide support to these group of learners by providing several opportunities for them to discuss their concerns through the formation of a Guidance Support group and facilitation of other TuTuKK programs to the group

GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING SERVICES
This service is provided to self-referred and referred BSU students duly enrolled and are seeking for assistance in the personal-social, career, and academic concerns.
