The Center for Geoinformatics provided expert services during a training workshop centered on Basic Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and the creation of School Base Maps utilizing QGIS. This event, organized by the Schools Division of Benguet under the Department of Education (DepEd), took place from April 28 to 30, 2025, in Sagada, Mountain Province.
Representatives from various school districts within the DepEd – Benguet Division, including division personnel, were trained in the applications of GIS methodologies. The training covered fundamental GIS topics, such as spatial and attribute data collection, processing, analysis, and visualization techniques, enabling participants to apply these tools effectively within their respective offices.
The training workshop was conducted successfully, with participants expressing high levels of satisfaction and enrichment. It equipped them with essential skills for effective planning and information management, particularly in government and educational contexts.
Participants plan to apply their newly acquired GIS skills in various practical applications, focusing primarily on mapping and data management for their schools and districts. They intend to improve data collection and consolidation for easier access and reporting, aligning with the goal of centralized data management.//BSU-GIS
