BSU celebrates 36th Charter Anniversary as a SMART University

Benguet State University (BSU) celebrated its 36th year as a state university on January 12, 2022 with the theme “BSU cares as a Smart University Towards Level V.” The occasion marks another milestone etched with tradition, history, and excellent accomplishments.

The celebration was highlighted with the Thanksgiving Mass, Charter Anniversary Program and PRAISE EVERLSTING Awarding Program held on January 12, 2022 at the University Gymnasium. These activities were broadcasted live on the official University Facebook Page.

Other activities conducted in celebration of the Charter Anniversary includes: the “Tebteb Lot Protection Team Clean Up Drive” on January 6 at Tebteb, Balili, La Trinidad near the BSU Poultry Project, to show BSU’s aspiration to protect its land reservations; the Blood Letting activity led by the University Health Services in partnership with the BSU College of Nursing on January 11 followed by the signing of two Memorandums of Agreement (MOA) between BSU and its partners at the International Relations Office (IRO).

The first MOA signed was between BSU and the Universitas Muhammadiyah Parepare, Indonesia. Both parties virtually finalized their partnership for implementing the Virtual Sit-in Class Program. The second MOA was between Benguet State University and the Local Government of La Trinidad, Agricultural Training Instituted - Department of Agriculture and Sanoy Heritage Farm. This partnership is for the implementation of the Highland Science for the Convergence of Agriculture and Tourism: Benguet Landscaping and Ornamental Offerings of Magsasaka Siyentista (Highland SciCAT: BLOOMS). The MOA signing trans at the International Relations Office.

Thanksgiving Mass
The 36th Charter Anniversary started with a thanksgiving mass presided by Fr. Mario E. Tambic. Attendees during the thanksgiving mass were one with prayers, bible reading, and songs of praises. BSU officials and personnel offered their thanksgiving gifts.

Blessing of New Vehicles
After the thanksgiving mass, BSU conducted a vehicle blessing and ribbon-cutting outside the university gymnasium. Ptr. Sam B. Galino, Ptr. Esther K. Balawag and Rev. Richardstone B. Banagui with Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Imelda O. Degay, VP for Research and Extension Dr. Romeo A. Gomez, Jr., and VP for Business Affairs Dr. Johnny G. Dati Sr., spearheaded this activity. The newly procured vehicles were assigned to the three campuses. A coaster and a van were assigned to the La Trinidad campus, while Bokod and Buguias campuses each received one van.

Kapihan sa BSU
As part of the 36th Charter Anniversary, BSU collaborated with the Philippine Information Agency-Cordillera Administrative Region (PIA-CAR) and organized the “Kapihan sa BSU” at the BSU gymnasium. The panelist includes Dr. Imelda O. Degay, the Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Romeo A. Gomez Jr., the Vice President for Research and Extensions; Dr. Johnny G. Dati Sr., the Vice President for Business Affairs; and Atty. Andres Arnold W. Lampacan, the Executive Assistant of the Office of the President. The four panelists each reported the accomplishments and aspirations of the University. Each panelist addressed questions from different Media personnel.

36th Charter Anniversary Program
The first part of the 36th Charter Anniversary Program was held after the Kapihan sa BSU at the BSU Gymnasium. Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Imelda O. Degay gave her welcome remarks in which she highlighted the BSU's milestones through the years including the University's achievements.

Messages were heard from Benguet officials including, Benguet Caretaker Cong. Eric Go Yap, Gov. Melchor Diclas, Municipal Mayors of Benguet: Manny E. Fermin(Kapangan), Manuel B. Munar, Jr. (Sablan), Armando I. Lauro (Tublay), Victorio T. Palangdan (Itogon), Cesar M. Molitas (Kibungan), Ruben L. Tindaan (Buguias), and Romeo Salda (La Trinidad), and Vice Mayor of the Municipality of La trinidad, Roderick Awingan. They congratulated and expressed their support to BSU in delivering quality education.

The program ended with the closing remarks of VP for Business Affairs Johnny G. Dati, Sr.


Praise Everlasting Awards
The second part of the 36th Charter Anniversary Program was the PRAISE EVERLASTING Awarding Ceremony held in the afternoon. It is one of the highlights of the 36th Charter Anniversary Celebration, which honors the retirees and employees who dedicated 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 years of service to the University.

The Loyalty Awardees for the 10 Years in Service from BSU La Trinidad Campus are Lelila Mary A. Ayban, Chelvin M. Basalong, Amelia G. Bawang, Jhordan T. Cuilan, Aldrino A. Dao-anis, Mary Arnel D. Garcia, Maureen E. Gay-as, and Zularte M. Laking. For the BSU Bokod Campus, Henrietta B. Bencio, Hazel G. Lino, and Cherry S. Tolano. And BSU Buguias Campus was represented by Dick M. Segundo.

Research and Extension Exhibit
The Office of Extension Services (OES) organized an exhibit that promoted the three components presented by various researches and extension sectors. Aside from the exhibit, OES had its soft launching of newly outside-funded research from the Research and Development initiatives of the university in collaboration with other funding agencies. They also had an online presentation of selected technologies from the university that will be uploaded online. The exhibit was available from the 13th to the 20th of January.

Dr. Johnny G. Dati Sr., Vice President for Business Affairs, was the representative of President Felipe Salaing Comila. Dr. Dati was present during the ribbon-cutting ceremony and gave an inspirational message during the exhibit’s program. He commended the personnel from the offices under the Research and Extension for the improvements seen in the exhibit. “So, let us invite others to schedule a visit here. Despite the Pandemic, let us show that we are doing our job.”, he added. Dr. Dati also reminded the personnel and attendees about President Comila’s “One university concept,” which encourages everybody to strengthen other campuses. “What we are showing here in this exhibit, let us help and teach it also to the other campuses,” he explained concerning the university’s goal to reach level V.

The exhibit was broadcasted online via the BSU OES Facebook page and was attended face-to-face at the Everlasting Hall of the R&E Building.   

Charter Fun Ride
The Charter Fun Ride titled BSU- Ondaw Shi Naybetaw was spearheaded by the BSU Government Employees Association in partnership with the BSU Gender and Development Office and College of Social Science. Ondaw She Naybetaw is an Ibaloi sentence that means "going the distance."

The Charter Fun Ride served as an outreach activity to two Elementary Schools in Barangay Baayan, Tublay, Benguet. The route starts from BSU La Trinidad campus to Kapangan Benguet. A warm welcome came from the Municipal Mayor Hon. Manny E. Fermin. Mayor Fermin conducted a short program at the Municipal covered court. He gave a message of thanks and promised to support BSU, especially to the proposed BSU Kapangan Campus. Mayor Fermin hopes that the campus that was proposed will soon realize.

The bikers later visited the KCNHS as part of a community outreach initiated by the College of Social Sciences. Then proceeded to Lamsis Elementary School in Bawi, Baayan, Tublay, and at the Baayan Elementary School.

Participants of the Charter Fun Ride consist of BSU officials, employees, staff, and other bike enthusiasts.

 

The BSU Charter Anniversary is celebrated in the month of  January to commemorate the elevation of the Mountain State Agricultural College to Benguet State University through Presidential Decree 2010 signed by President Ferdinand E. Marcos on January 12, 1986.

PD 2010 mandated the then, newly established Benguet State University to provide graduate and undergraduate courses in the arts, sciences, humanities and professional courses as the Board of Regents may determine and deem proper.
