BSU to provide Balik Eskwela services for Persons Deprived of Liberty

Benguet State University (BSU) and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology – (BJMP) La Trinidad and Baguio signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the BSU Balik Eskwela Advocacy and Mentoring Services (BSU BEAMS). The project is intended for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) who are interested in pursuing their studies.

The program was proposed by the Office of the VP for Academic Affairs and was approved by the Board of Regents on February 2024.

BJMP would be responsible in providing space for the PDL learners while BSU will provide educational materials. The program can only be availed by PDLs who finished high school of the old curriculum or senior high school of the new curriculum. The services will be granted to interested PDLs with light sentences only.

Both parties including the university officials, deans, and directors were present during the MOA signing. The project is the third of its kind to be launched within the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR). Further talks between both parties were initiated right after the signing to move the program forward.//EBawang
