CNS, CF celebrate Biology Week 2024

The College of Natural Sciences (CNS), together with the College of Forestry (CF), held its Biology Week 2024 with the theme: "Sparking Fire Safety: Empowering Future Biologists to ignite Awareness and Action". This event ocurred at the Puguis Communal Forest. 

The objectives of the event were to conduct a seminar on forest fire prevention and management, and install the signboard of the Benguet State University (BSU) Adopted Area in the Puguis Communal Forest.

The first topic was discussed by FO1 Niel Cariño, from the La Trinidad Fire Station, explaining some terms on fire prevention, the man-made and antural causes of forest fires, and ways to prevent this calamity. On the second topic aboutforest management, Arthur A. Pedro of the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) gave insights on RA 9003, RA 8749, and PD 705. In addition, he also reiterated the local forest management programs done in La Trinidad and the Cordillera region, specifically the communal forests and watershed of La Trinidad After the speakers' discussions, students were once again reminded of their purpose as stewards of the planet, emphasizing their roles to safeguard and nurture the environment.

According to Bios Logos Society Adviser, Joanna Alafag, this extension program aims to make students be one with nature and learn more about sustainable forest management practices. The event was made possible with the assistance of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-CAR, MENRO, Puguis Marangay Council, and BFP- La Trinidad.

To conclude the program, the faculty members and participants witnessed the installation of the signboard consisting of the adopted area of BSU in Puguis Communal Forest.
