CHED Technical Committee and RQAT evaluates BSU’s advanced studies programs

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Technical Committee and Regional Quality Assessment Team (RQAT) evaluated the master and doctorate programs of Benguet State University (BSU) on August 13-15, 2024. This assessment aims to determine the programs’ compliance to the minimum requirements set by CHED and the programs’ eligibility to the issuance of CHED-Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC).

The evaluated programs were Master of Arts in Education - Educational and Administration Supervision, Early Childhood Education, and Elementary Education; Doctor of Philosophy in Education-Educational and Administration Supervision; Master of Arts in Home Economics; Master of Arts in Technical-Vocational Studies; Master of Arts in General Science; Doctor of Philosophy in Science Education-Biology; Master of Science in Physical Education; Master of Arts in Social Studies.

The assessment team included Ericson M. Reyes and Ma. Kripper N. Valmote from the CHED Technical Committee, along with Allen V. Bautista and Larry A. Gabao from the RQAT. Also present during the evaluation were CHED CAR officials Ma. Geraldine Casipit and Patricio Dinamling.

BSU President Felipe Salaing Comila thanked the expertise of the evaluation team at the opening program on August 13, 2024. He said their assistance and insights would guide the University towards quality programs and continued progress and development.

The assessment focused on the review of program documents under the areas of board resolutions on the offering of the programs; accreditation status; program description, outcomes, goals, and objectives; profile of the dean and program coordinator; faculty profile; curriculum; Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) requirement; library resources; laboratory and facilities; admission and retention policy, adviser to student ration, and thesis/dissertation panel; research and creative works; and Higher Education Institution (HEI)-Industry partnership. It also involved validation of the evidences and discussions with the BSU Local Task Force.

During the closing program on August 15, 2024, the Evaluation Team presented their feedback on the programs, highlighting areas for improvement and providing recommendations.

Vice President for Academic Affairs Samuel S. Poliden, representing President Comila, delivered his commitment to addressing the evaluation team’s recommendations and assured that updates related to the evaluation would be shared with other colleges.
