BSU champions 18-Day campaign against violence

Benguet State University, through the Gender and Development Office, joined the 18-day campaign against violence from November 25 to December 12, 2023 initiated by the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW).  The campaign is a strong resolve to eradicate violence against women and children.

Embracing the spirit of the campaign, BSU constituents from the different colleges and offices marched from the Administration Building to the University Gymnasium on November 25, 2023. Afterwards, they attended the orientation forum regarding the Safe Space Act, gender-based violence in the workplace, and efforts to prevent violence against women and children. BSU-GAD Director, Estrellita M. Daclan gave the rationale for the activity.

In his message, BSU President Felipe Salaing Comila reiterated the importance of understanding each other’s role in the society. He rationalized that if everybody knows their respective roles and try to understand others better, peace will happen.

Chief Administrative Officer, Matias C. Angiwan Jr. then led the discussion on the intricacies of the Safe Space Act (RA11313) followed by Legal Office Chief, Reynante B. Basco who delved into the critical topic of Gender-Based Violence in the workplace and Anti-Violence against women and Children.

The forum served as a venue for the participants to exchange ideas, pose questions, and express their concerns. The event concluded with the remarks of Amelia Kimeu of the BSU-GAD Technical Working Group.

The campaign's momentum continued in BSU Bokod and Buguias on November 26, 2023 and December 1, 2023 demonstrating BSU’s steadfast dedication to establishing a friendly and secure environment for everyone.
