CA Dominates USRC 2023

The College of Agriculture (CA) received the most number of awards during the 7th University Student Research Congress held on June 22-23, 2023 at the Research and Extension complex. Student participants from the college received eight best paper awards.

Other colleges that obtained awards during the congress include the College of Numeracy and Applied Sciences (CNAS), College of Forestry (CF), College of Natural Sciences (CNS) College of Home Economics and Technology (CHET), College of Arts and Humanities (CAH), College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM), College of Social Sciences (CSS) and College of Teacher Education (CTE). 

Student participants from CA got all three awards under the Science & Technology Agriculture, Aquatic, Natural Resources (S&T AANR) category graduate level. The 1st best paper is "Quality of Philippine Native Chicken Egg and Survivability of Chicks as affected by Storage Duration and Shape" Index by Triel Felix. The 2nd best paper is "Survey and Mapping of Plant-parasitic Nematodes in White Maize in the Province of Isabela" by Emmanuel Lacueva and the 3rd best paper is "Reassessment of Mercury Levels in the Selected Agricultural Farms Grown with cabbage in Nan-agto, Natubleng Buguias, Benguet" by Cristy Cadiogan. 

In the S&T AANR category undergraduate level, the 1st best paper is "Biomass, Carbon Stock and Economic Value Assessment of Daclan Communal Forest Parcel IV in Tublay, Benguet" by Roshel Bagangan, Nayvie Carantes and Ruthlayne Taynan from CF. The 2nd best paper is "Floral Diversity Assessment and Community Appraisal for Forest Ecosystem Importance, Issues, and Management Practices of Mt. Natoo in Sebang, Buguias, Benguet, Philippines" by Johndale Rein Bullong and Jim Siverio. The 3rd best paper is "Floral Diversity, Carbon Stock, and Ecotourism Management of Puguis Communal Forest, La Trinidad, Benguet" by Christian Wallace David, Hannah Kate Pasi, and Hazel Keith Tayab. The awardees are from CNS. 

In the S&T Food, Industry, Energy and Emerging Technologies (S&T FIEET) category graduate level, the best paper is "Multilayered Ifugao-weaved Textiles as Triboelectric Nanogenerator for Sustainable Energy Harvesting" by Clifford Daduya from CNAS. 

In the S&T FIEET category undergraduate level, the 1st best paper is "Spatio-Temporal Analysis of the Land Use Land Cover Change in the Upper Agno River Basin Resource Reserve Using Remote Sensing" by Mikaella Gabrielle Esquejo, Kelaiah Jud Ulao, and Stephanie Suzzane Valdez. The 2nd best paper is "Pure Salt and Modified Weigner’s Solution as an Alternative on Preserving Dog Muscles for Gross Dissection Studies" by Divina Garcia Beligan from CVM and the 3rd best paper is "Development of Ready to-Drink Tamarillo Juice using Stevia powder as Sweetener" by Claire Diazen, Edissa Paragas, Dianne Siblag, and Claribelle Villena from CHET. 

Under the Social AANR category graduate level, the 1st best paper is "Our Farmer’s Haven: Modelling a Community-Supported Organic Agriculture and Social Enterprise Towards Sustainability of Organic Farming in Highland Communities" by Sang Won Lee from CA. The 2nd best paper is "Landscaping the Micro-Small Agricultural Enterprises in La Trinidad, Benguet: A Significant Input for Local Development Planning" by Adrian Castaneda from CA. The 3rd best paper is "Ethnomathematics on the Rice Cultivation Practices in Sablan, Benguet" by Jessica Yeban from CNAS. 

In the Social AANR category undergraduate level, the 1st best paper is "Accessibility of Agricultural Credit and Its Perceived Effects Among the High-Value Crop Farmers of Topdac, Atok, Benguet" by Jayver Picpican from CA and the 2nd  best paper is "Factor Analysis of Stress Management Practices of Vegetable Farmers in Kibungan, Benguet" by Charmaine Ryzel Atam, Althea Margaret Celebre and Hanna Rose Kay-ang from CNAS.

In the Social Non-AANR category graduate level, the 1st best paper is "Paglilikom at Pagsusuri ng mga Terminolohiyang Sambal-Tina sa Larang ng Pangingisda Tungo sa Pagbuo ng Glosaryo" by Daryl Jim Angel from CAH. The 2nd best paper is "Sango: A Conflict Resolution among the Adasen" by Mark Joshua Balao-as from CSS. 

In the Social Non-AANR category undergraduate level, the 1st best paper is "Financial Literacy of Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness (BSAB) Students at Benguet State University" by Gemalyn Waking from CA. The 2nd best paper "Perceived Academic Stress and its Relationship on the Eating Behavior of the Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics Students of Benguet State University La Trinidad Campus" by Jiara Eika Nitron, Xyliene Bernyze Obiacoro, Lea Jenelle Retuerne and Hazel Sinadcop from CHET.

In the Education category graduate level, the 1st best paper is "Predictive Validity of the National Competitive Examination and the Academic Performance of Grade 8 Scholars" by Fabella Tabadero from CNAS. The 2nd best paper is "Development and Validation of indigenous Knowledge System and Practices Integrated with General Chemistry Laboratory exercise for Senior High School" by Grail Gambulao from CNS. The 3rd best papers are "Problem-Solving Heuristic Strategies and mathematical Ability of Grade 10 Students Under Blended Learning Modality" by Mark Anthony Sumanoy from CNAS and "Writing Feature and Challenges of Learners with Hearing Impairment: Basis for the Development of Supplemental Learning Material" by Sheree Joy Tulagan from CAH. 

In the Education category undergraduate level, the 1st best paper is "Vocabulary Learning Strategies of English Language Students in Informal Learning Environments" by Jeyamae Henry and Alyssa Capdos. The 2nd best paper is "Learning Dynamics of Elementary Education Student-Parents" by Charity Mae Agtulao,  Jerosabelle Antonio, Yvonne Shane Balinag and Ronalyn Bayas from CTE.

Ninety two student theses were presented in this years’ USRC. The winners of the USRC will join in the Regional Student Research Congress to be held in October 2023 in Apayao State College.//ASantiago
