EARIST faculty members visit BSU food production services

Jocelyn R. Moreno and Ernesto C. Pacheco Jr. from the Eulogio “Amang” Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology (EARIST) visited BSU on April 17-18, 2024 to explore collaboration opportunities and gather best practices in food production.

The visitors aimed to learn from the innovative practices of the Food Processing Center (FPC), Bakery Project, Food Science Research Innovation Center (FSRIC), and the Agri-based Technology Business Incubator/Innovation Center (ATBI/IC).
On April 17, Moreno and Pacheco made a courtesy visit to BSU President, Felipe Salaing Comila then toured the FPC, Bakery, and Marketing Center.

On April 18, they engaged in a discussion of best practices of the IGP centers with VP for Business Affairs, Norma P. Banania, FPC project manager, Johnabel T. Basatan, and Bakery project manager, Arnie P. Mendoza.

Banania emphasized the integral role of Income Generating Projects (IGPs) in the university operations and shared processes on the procurement of raw materials, budget approvals, and compliance with regulatory bodies.

The Vice President and the Project Managers also shared the challenges they encountered in managing the centers and encouraged the visitors to follow the necessary processes for the improvement of their production services.

The visitors also interviewed Karen Gaerlan, OIC Director of the ATBI/IC, and Manuel Dorado Jr. of the FSRIC to learn insights on the best practices of these centers.//EBawayan
